Four separate corporate entities operate under the name Metro Vancouver:
• Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD)
• Greater Vancouver Sewerage & Drainage District (GVS&DD)
• Greater Vancouver Water District (GVWD)
• Metro Vancouver Housing Corporation (MVHC)
Metro Vancouver comprises 22 member municipalities and one electoral area. Through Metro Vancouver, each member municipality has a say in how the region is run. The GVRD, GVWD and GVSDD Boards of Directors comprise mayors and councilors from the member municipalities on a “representation by population” basis.
Metro Vancouver is committed to:
• delivering essential utility services, such as drinking water, sewage treatment, recycling and garbage disposal, economically and effectively on a regional basis;
• maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in the region by managing and planning growth and development and protecting air quality and green spaces.
Metro Vancouver Housing owns and operates housing sites in many Lower Mainland municipalities, providing housing for more than 10,000 people.
