Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM)
Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM)
The AMM was created in January 1999 as a result of a merger between the Union of Manitoba Municipalities (UMM) and the Manitoba Association of Urban Municipalities (MAUM). All municipalities in Manitoba are members of the AMM.
One of the main functions of the AMM is to lobby on issues that affect Manitoba municipalities. Many of their issues are raised by members through resolutions or correspondence, which are then brought to the attention of the Manitoba or federal government. Other issues are initiated by senior levels of government when they draft legislation or regulations that affect municipalities.
The AMM monitors and responds to any legislation affecting municipal government. The AMM also operates a trading company, the Municipalities Trading Company of Manitoba Ltd. (MTCML) and provides many member services, including specials events throughout the year, a quarterly magazine, a bi-weekly news bulletin, a web site and general information and support.
The AMM is solely funded by its members and its trading company.
