Community Based Organizations

Community-based research operates through collaboration between members of the community at large, policy and decision makers, and academics. Together they address the need for research that has a direct, practical impact based in local realities; that works with communities as participants; and that seeks to improve the everyday lives of people in communities locally and globally. The Social Science and Humanities Research Council provides funding through its Community-University Research Alliance program to support such endeavours. The Winnipeg Inner-City Research Alliance is just one example of a community-based research forum.
