Academics

CMHC’s Housing Research Mapping Project study identified the fact that more than a third of Canada’s established housing researchers are academics, working in (and many times establishing) hubs of housing research. Many are active promoters of specialized research, innovative approaches and greater collaboration among stakeholders. York University provides a perfect example, partnering with the Homelessness Partnering Secretariat to launch the Homeless Hub, an online clearinghouse of homelessness research.

“My attendance at the National Housing Research Committee provided me with a range of perspectives on housing issues. It helped broaden my understanding and knowledge of the wide ranging implication of housing issues and the importance of housing to other social and economic sectors and policy areas. As a result, I am a better-informed researcher and teacher.”
