Waterloo Region is one of Canada’s fastest growing communities, expected to reach 729,000 people by 2031. The growth rate of the Region is twice that of the National average. The median population age is one of the lowest in Canada.

Waterloo Region Housing manages 2,591 affordable rental housing units owned by the Region of Waterloo. These units, which are located in the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, and in the townships of Woolwich and Wellesley, include low and high-rise apartment buildings, townhouses, semi-detached and single family homes. Units vary in size and a selection of units is accessible for individuals with disabilities.

Waterloo Region Housing was formed in August of 2000 through the amalgamation of the South Waterloo Housing Authority and the North Waterloo Housing Authority, operating under the Ontario Housing Corporation. Ownership of Waterloo Region Housing was transferred to the Region of Waterloo as Service Manager on January 1, 2001, under the Social Housing Reform Act, (2000).
