The mandate of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs is to foster a strong system of municipal government. Key partners of the ministry include municipal associations, municipal councils and administrators, community planners and property assessment appraisers. In addition to collaborating with key partners, in carrying out its responsibilities the ministry also works with other provincial ministries and in consultation with the federal government where applicable. Its goal is to develop thriving, sustainable and accountable municipalities that serve the residents of Saskatchewan. Its objectives are:
- Effective government to government relationships;
- Sustainable municipal infrastructure and services;
- Effective municipal governance through strong municipal leadership and engaged citizens.
- Municipal Affairs is organized into five service branches:
- Grants Administration & Financial Management Branch;
- Community Planning Branch;
- Northern Municipal Services Branch;
- Policy Development Branch;
- Strategy and Stakeholder Relations Branch.
