Service de la mise en valeur du territoire et du patrimoine – Centre de documentation Marie-Morin

The Centre de documentation Marie-Morin is a special library of approximately 20,000 reports and books that are available to City of Montreal employees as well as to researchers in the urban planning and housing fields. It is possible to arrange for an appointment. The library is open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday and it offers interlibrary loan services.

About 65% of the collection is in French, while the rest is in English. The library also collects urban and master plans from across Canada and the United States, but the bulk of the collection is made up of consultants’ reports that were commissioned for the City of Montreal. Of these consultants’ reports, about 80% were written in French and the rest is in English. It is also important to note that most of these consultants’ reports were not published. So the library is in many cases the only place where these reports can be found in a systematic manner.

An online catalogue exists, however it is only being used internally. There are plans to host the library catalogue on the local intranet so that City of Montreal employees will be able to search it. At the moment, there are no plans to put the library catalogue on the Internet.

While the largest client group is made up of urban planners, the second largest client group is made up of housing experts. The library is also used by archaeologists with respect to the early history of Montreal.
