Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) – CIP Publications
Representing a membership of approximately 7000 planning professionals across Canada, the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) has been dedicated to the advancement of responsible planning since 1919.
The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) is a collaborative national federation that advances professional planning excellence through the delivery of membership and public services in Canada and abroad.
Working on behalf of planners and the planning profession, CIP serves as the national voice of Canada's planning community. In its capacity as the national professional institute and certification body for the planning profession in Canada, CIP has a mandate from its membership to: (1) champion and lead progress and change in planning practice; (2) act as the authoritative voice and the primary information and knowledge sharing network for planners; (3) address issues of importance to the planning profession and/or the public interest; (4) institute national standards for training, certification and best practices achieved through continued professional development of its membership; and (5) deliver relevant and contemporary benefits and services to its members.
Planning, Urban planning
There is a publications section which describes several publications available from CIP, but a membership is required to access certain of them.
The Institute produces manuals for planners as well as the newsletters Plan Canada and the Canadian Journal of Urban Research. In addition, the Institute runs a web-based newsletter aimed at municipal planners called ScenarioPlus as well as a web-based newsletter aimed at student planners called Plan2Plan. Issues of ScenarioPlus and Plan2Plan are free and available in full text on-line.
ScenarioPlus offers an SOS service whereby planners can submit issues and receive comments and advice from other planners across Canada.
Note: the CIP does not have a library.
