Housing Data Working Group Meeting

The Fall 2009 Session of the National Housing Research Committee’s (NHRC’s) Housing Data Working Group was held on Monday afternoon, November 2nd at the Crowne Plaza Hotel – Pinnacle Room, 101 Lyon Street in Ottawa.

This Working Group meeting continues to present the latest in data sources and analysis techniques and also provides you with great networking opportunities. The meetings of all Working Groups were video web-cast live in both official languages to reach all stakeholders interested in NHRC matters.

Meeting Description

Following the lunch, the Housing Data Working Group Co-Chairs François Pagé of Statistics Canada and Candace Fedoruk of Canada Mortage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) opened the meeting. Two presentations described the development and results from statistical models of housing demand. Professor Mario Fortin of Université de Sherbrooke summarized his work on the impacts of population aging on real housing prices and Richard Gabay of CMHC described the Potential Housing Demand (PHD) model. This was followed by Lucie Gélineau and Pierre Gromaire of Université Laval who talked about a project done for Société d’habitation du Quebec (SHQ) that linked various data sources to produce a statistical profile of residents of social housing in the City of Québec.
