The NHRC's Homelessness Working Group meeting was held on Tuesday morning November 8th, 2011 at the Albert at Bay Suite, 435 Albert Street in Ottawa.

The Working Group co-chairs, Nancy Baker of the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) and Louise Hale-Finley of New Brunswick - Social Development, opened the meeting. Professor Jeff Karabanow of Dalhousie University led off with his research on the experiences of street youth populations in Canada. This was followed by a presentation on the criminalization of youth homelessness by Professor Bill O'Grady from the University of Guelph. Afterwards, Professor Valerie Tarasuk from the University of Toronto examined research on the nutritional vulnerability of homeless youth and food assistance options from shelters. Dr. Stephen Gaetz of York University then synthesized research findings on youth homelessness and the role of research in supporting the development of strategies to address youth homelessness.
