SPRING 2010 HOMELESSNESS WORKING GROUP MEETING
The NHRC's Homelessness Working Group meeting was held April 27th, 2010 at the Loews Hotel Vogue in Montreal.
Meeting Description
The Homelessness Working Group co-chairs, Nathalie Leclerc of the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) Homelessness Partnering Secretariat and Louise Hale-Finley, Alternate for Tom Henderson of New Brunswick – Social Development, opened the meeting. The first presenter, Sonia Côté of the At Home/Chez Soi Montréal project looked at sustainable solutions for people with mental health issues who are homeless. This was followed by a presentation focusing on the role of affordable housing in exits from homelessness by Dr. Uzo Anucha of York University. Then, Shelley Heartwell of The Alex Community Health Centre of Calgary, presented on the Canadian edition of the Pathways Housing First model. This was followed by a presentation on the outcomes of the Housing First approach in the Hostels to Homes initiative by Dr. Thu Nguyen of the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services.
