SPRING 2010 DISTINCT NEEDS WORKING GROUP MEETING
The NHRC Distinct Needs Working Group meeting was held on April 27th, 2010 at the Loews Hotel Vogue in Montreal.
Meeting Description
Co-chairs Karla Skoutajan of the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada (CHF Canada) and Jim Zamprelli of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation opened the Distinct Needs Working Group meeting under the theme "Showcasing Housing for Distinct Needs". The first presenter, Marie-Noëlle Ducharme of the Université du Québec à Montréal, discussed not-for-profit housing organizations in Quebec. This was followed by a presentation on housing projects for persons with cognitive disabilities and success factors that promote better social integration, by Jean Proulx, Lucie Dumais and Yves Vaillancourt from the Laboratoire de recherche sur les pratiques et les politiques sociales (LAREPPS). The next presentation by Diane Lemire of Groupe CDH, was on the Cloverdale Housing Co-operative. The Working Group meeting concluded with a presentation by Sophie Lanctôt of Société Logique on the role of universal design in providing solutions to a variety of disability-related issues.
